Tales Through Tears
(Part 2)
P K Routray
Remember I the vivid scene of yesteryear
Kuhu was crawling out of the arms of my mother’s sister
as if trying to reach her dear brother
to scratch him and listen to his loving laughter
being unaware of the scene of sorrows on death
where her dear brother was drowned and lost his breath.
it is equanimity, a child achieves because of its ignorance
now we see in her the same child but with scriptural fragrance.
Her brother was lying motionless never to play again with her
Grievous was the scene around, unconscious was the mother.
I felt as if my little brother telling his crawling sister
“Do not cry.To take care of you I am telling our brothers elder”
His babbling words and kid’s tone still ring in my ear
“Bhai ! I am departing forever, take care of our sister dear.”
Compare I the scenes occurring six and half decades apart
I am her only surviving elder brother, only cry and pray in the heart.
Remember I the scene of Kuhu’s birth and then my anxiety
as to get mother's breastfeed how both of them would fight.
But I hazily remember he never became a barrier
with the giggle, he left for his sister on grandma’ shoulder.
(N.B Kuhu had another brother younger to me and two years older yo her.he got drowned in the backyard pond. I am the elder brother then was around five years older to my sister)
