In Mid-Summer My Dream Came True
In a lowly cinema stall I lay
No one and nine penny to pay
Made to sit by school and bored all day
Of my home I was wishing, if I had my way
Dreaming of nothing
Till Titania nudged me
Judy in her prime
A year before the summer of sixty nine
Teasing breasts covered with vine
I longed for the stunning fairy to be mine
The tree of lust for her I’d climb
This queen of stage, film and screen
Showed me just what might have been
Shakespeare’s sister woke a dream so clean
Like a proud peacock I’d preen
Praying my foolish amour had been seen
Fast forward nearly fifty years
Whilst she moved through thespian gears
As I watched in awe the goddess brought tears
Laughter, surreal hopes so dear
Still I wish Titania of yester year was near
I dreamed a dream of summers gone
Fervently praying not to wake
‘Don’t tear me from her side’
Leave me in the summer of sixty eight
A real life Ass who dreamed a dream
The fairy world is full of fun
Here I’ll stay and we’ll be as one
So to Stratford to tread the hallowed boards
A clumsy Mechanical of rude proportion
Truly amateur I stumbled through my lines
Dream 16 gave me a teasing taste
I searched everywhere for the nymph
Dearest Judy…just one clinch!
A thousand stinging hands
On tiptoes all did stand
In mid-summer smiled the bard
From way on high
At one fumbling actor
Still seeking Judy
Heaved a final sigh

What a splendid memory. I
What a splendid memory. I haven't seen that film, but I can imagine she was mesmerising. I love the image of you in the one-and-ninepennies, transported by the divine Dench. I hope you enjoyed your time as a Rude Mechanical!
