[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
When travelling to Jerusalem,
they lift their eyes to see
their place of worship afar off,
but higher still is he
whose throne in in his heaven above:
your mercy now provide,
our eyes can look and trust in you –
kind Master at our side.
Though suffering much contempt and sneers,
ridicule from the proud,
who think our journey waste of time,
and taunt with mocking loud
– they have not seen the glorious sight
on which we fix our gaze,
the destination sure and bright
now cheers our pilgrim days.
