West Wales

 

   You can’t get much wester in Wales than Haverfordwest. We actually came here before, last year, when the toilets in Lidl’s were out of order and we had to go to the car showroom across the road, on our way to St. Davids. We are further west this year than last. We are in a cottage near a beautiful Welsh town (Haverfordwest) where the buildings are painted many colours, presumably to brighten everyone up when it rains. It has not been raining, except a bit in Aberystwyth on the way down.

 

    It is like letting the little animals out of the zoo when the young children’s bedroom door is opened by their Grandma. They have their own language (not Welsh!) which they make up as they go along, to copy our speech, as they have limited vocabulary at this stage in life. They run up and down; all that energy built up overnight, waiting to be released in the morning when the door is opened.

    Broad Haven Beach; oil tankers in the bay, the rocky coast of Pembrokeshire. The sun is shining, but clouds still come across occasionally to make us complain that the weather is not quite good enough; but in fact it is a lot warmer than yesterday, when we went to Tenby and Caldey Island. Not quite warm enough to take the T shirt off, but warm enough for shorts, getting warmer.

 

    I spoke too soon. It got a lot sunnier, and we all got sunburned!

children's language is a thing of joy.

It certainly is. They are very creative and active in that sense, trying to copy older people. They soon learn our language, but it does take them a while.

We enjoy holidaying in North Pembrokeshire and walking the coastal path (no children now!), and were surprised when walking down near Broad Haven this year at the sight of all the tankers anchored around the bay - it seemed quite a way to Milford Haven, but I suppose they had to wait their time for unloading. Rhiannon

I see where you have gained your inspiration for the coastal path pieces now, although we did not have time to go to all those places. I like your descriptions of nature. I put some pictures on facebook of Broad Haven Beach, with the tankers in the distance, but not sure how to get those onto abctales via my computer which is a bit too up to date for me to have mastered. I won't bother to try that.

Thanks for commenting Jenny. This was a literary snapshot of my feelings of being on holiday in those places at that time, and a nice way to remember the holiday, which has now unfortunately finished. I did a reasonable amount of writing on the holiday which I do like to do when I am on holiday. Then I come home and it takes me months to catch up typing it up.
