She studied me from across the wall
Standing statue-still, her back to the rain
I wondered if she’d heard me screaming,
riding up the track
I’d convinced myself there was no one else around,
just trees, the rain and me
Her eyes fixed upon me: sodden, wobbling to a halt
No reaction. No response. Not a flicker.
Then her mouth began to move, jaw slowly circulating
Rain blew in sheets against my face
I felt better for the scream
