The moon’s lost stars

The world naps
As you toss in bed
Overthinking the words
you shouldn’t have said
We flatter the universe
Thinking we could borrow their stars
But the moon never envied
Having An audience
For comings and goings
Always dressed
In flamboyant pinks,oranges,and violets
What if the sun liked punk, indie,
or alternative rock?
Would they accuse him of indecency
If one day he wore his sister’s band t-shirts
and painted His nails jet black.
The moon wouldn’t mind it
They didn’t mind her.
Only vampires, drunks,stoners
Lovesick sweethearts
And insomniacs acknowledged
Her existence.
She didn’t mind that either
It was a case of getting used to
And billions of years
have prepared her for that.
It was not very complicated
It was a simple wish
She wanted one night off
To embrace her stars
Had the universe heard
They’d have done what others did
Like The rest of them
they slept
on her nightmares
and woke up
To her brother’s dreams.

I like this very much,
I like this very much, especially your stanza on everyone who acknowledges the existence of the moon, but then I do love all lunar things. :)
