The One String Woman

East European woman

strums one string guitar

repeated discordant

droning atonal

hoping to improvise

jam with the street noise

maybe not.

Avant garde in Union Street

in her mind, she plays blues,

folk songs for the people.

Her reality not yet composed

Her begging bowl unsullied

On and on she strums

Briefly capturing an uncaring audience.
