You look forward
to a sumptuous breakfast,
a gastronomic fare
fit for kings.
The table is adorned
with fine things:
a lace tablecloth made
in Burano,silver cutlery
and cut crystal glasses.
There is plenty of food
on the side table:
oeuf en cocotte, quails' eggs,
fruit juice, marmalade
and syrup of molasses.
As you are about
to make your selection
you wake up to reality
and find that you are
in a transport caff
with Tiffany, the owner,
and the usual riff-raff.
So you forget your wish
and banish any craving
for an exotic dish.
Instead, from the menu,
you pick eggs and chips,
speciality of this venue,
with a smack of the lips.

My oeuf en cocette was a little overdone this morning, but I have complained to my cook and been assured that this won't happen again. Enjoyed this Luigi, truth be told though, I'd much rather a greasy spoon than a posh breakfast, but your fantasy one sounds tempting too. Rachel x
