The Friend in Arms pub stood at the end of a Georgian terrace. The houses were shabby and split into cheap flats and rooms rented by art students, musicians and those out of work. Once, after a club night, she'd ended up there with a guy who drummed for a local band. He played the Grateful Dead and she fed his cat tuna. Every so often, someone somewhere would bang on a wall.
