The Unwritten Notebook

The open pages are an invite to write, or are they?

Some hesitate, beware the bear trap book.

Blank pages may bring terror to the unwary,

like the man overcome by the mania of automatic writing,

his inspired spider marathon of words

outpoured from some dark, indefinite source.

Otherwise, some fear the desecration of the blank page,

a foul footfall of pen on the snow white page,

the anti explorer impulse, 

where one word undoes the potentiality 

of the unmarked book.

But I am given to the flow of any jous scrawl,

knowing that the night waits ahead,

when there will be no light for writing,

and any one word put upon the page

buys back illumination

from that darkness by degrees.
