My Greed in my deed
“Greed you must shun
so as to ascertain
a place in heaven”
parted to me as a sermon
since my very early age
through curricula’s page
and as a pearl of scriptural wisdom.
now thus gaining momentum
as my preparation is on the run
for my ensuing destination.
“In life, thus lived
It is vivid
that the greed I could not shun
“Hell” appears as the destination.”
Brooding over this gloom
my life, I started to broom
to find out my greed and lust
and “How were they caused.”
why could not I spurn them?
Why should I take the blame?”
On my survey, peeped out
my childhood greed enroute.
Accused I, me as a child
being barbarian and wild
as now turning vegetarian
I feel it as seer barbarian
the craze then in me to relish
chickn, mutton, egg and fish.
Since my very early age
till my mid fifty stage
I was an omnivorous
and then turned to herbivorous
propelled by urge inner
when I became wiser.
Then my distaste had begun
to dishes non-vegetarian
Un like town and city
where shops are plenty
selling chicken, mutton, and fish
varying varieties as buyers wish.
in our villages rural
on occasions special
we get mutton and fish
and chicken to relish
though there, they are bred
but sold to provide the breeder's bread
Hens, roasters, we had our own
with freedom, they are grown
fed on feeds from the fields around
roots, insects, as aplenty they found.
For yolks of the eggs boiled or fried
saliva on my tongue then never dried.
On special occasions
or for brother on vacations
or for an out station guest
less often on my earnest request
cuisines on chicken are prepared
the major portion of it I shared.
Still my greed led to my frustration
as I wished it to be shared by none.
Greed was burning me then
on fish mutton and chicken
to take alone sharing with none
even a little of its bony portion.
Propelled it, me
an opportunity to see
the absence of a member
sharing as the chicken eater.
To Grand ma, I told a lie
how smartly I could vie
with a tackle on the run
and our roaster I won
but the fox had wounded it
now that we must eat.
Waited, I with elation
for its preparation.
But to my bad luck and frustration
my brother came home, all on a sudden.
My greed was snubbed at its height,
frustration and anger, me, did bite.
From ponds and rivers around
fishes live kept me spellbound
From its half fried stage onwards
snatched I despite watchwords
out of greed beyond the capability
tolerating like a python, the immobility.
From a particular clan, a person
butchered the goats to sell mutton
in packs of palm leaves, they sold
I counted the hours with joy untold.
From its half-cocked stage
to the next day storage
piece by piece I used to take
stealing, lying and acting fake.
Tell you must mow, then my invention
the best taste gives the semi-cooked mutton
Never it dissolves unless pushed in
you go on munching and enjoying the cuisine.
Fish heads and tails were my special choice
the goat Brain and breast, I did always rejoice.
Out of seer greed I have taken six eggs cake
Now at the reminiscence of the greed, head I break.
