Don’t forget
She’s just a girl
Beneath the woman facade
Behind the things she says
To deflect you from noticing
She is frightened and unsure
Those things you casually say,
Like mentioning her age, her hair colour,
the size of her breasts, those are things she thinks of when you’re gone
When you tell her of your drunken encounter with the young girl from work, how you slept with her but you’re still friends, it’s not awkward. Don’t forget how that feels for her, listening out for your devotion, calculating your love
Those messages you send her to ask about her day are welcome, but the ones you don’t send telling her you missed her and that you thought about that freckle on her top lip, those messages would be better, so send those
Don’t forget she’s just a girl who wants to love you, who would lay down in front of you here and let you have her right now if you asked. Remember every time you kiss her, she kisses you back
Don’t forget she’s a girl - strong, soft, resilient. Give her what’s beneath your clothes but show her inside your skin. Say out loud those things you’re keeping close. She will hold your secrets and fears as she holds you - tenderly, next to her heart.
