Remembering Nanay
By Paul McCann
I remember the way she smiled that made everything feel all right
and the way she would disappear when I was in her line of sight .
Our brief conversations in English said so much in just a word,
love you she would say and I would answer her back to what I heard.
She often laughed as she spoke in Tagalog which made me feel good
and I loved the way she never asked to give you some of her food .
She always made sure I had enough rosaries and those I have kept,
and I still remember the last words she said to me , Jesus wept ,
the I do miss her but life goes on for us all who are left behind .
the grief in suffering is having someone that we cannot find
and I miss her but life goes on for us all who are left behind .
Thinking of those we loved who have gone , is a heavy cross to bear
I love you Nanay and remember always the person you were ..
