The Fall Of Atlantis by Alfred N.Muggins

Alfred views the increasing encroachment of Christmas adverts, on television and elsewhere, before Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday, which falls after this year. The Americans haven’t even roasted their Thanksgiving Turkeys yet, and are still recovering from their ever more celebrated Halloween (or should we call it Helloween!).
Meanwhile Afghanistan was a sinking ship, which was allowed to go down, without even a shot fired in its defence, in its final stages! When Christmas is celebrated even before we’ve earned it, we know there is something wrong, at the heart of Western Civilisation!
The whole of Atlantis is going down. At least half the population of Afghanistan is leaving its borders, crossing deserts, getting out on remaining flights, allowed by the new Barbarian Stone Age leadership, before the inevitable famines take hold. Everyone knows its coming, the economy has stopped! All professional work has ceased and everyone is getting out. (Was the Fall of the Roman Empire like this?)
The aid isn’t coming this year because there is no suitable government. How can you chuck money at an organisation like Taliban and expect them to oversee the feeding of their whole nation? Last year they were still busy assassinating their own people and the foreign helpers!
We watch war films and documentaries to commemorate the war and how Atlantis, the West, fought it, when decency fought back against barbarity and won the day, once upon a time in World War 2, or was it just a dream or a legend of fantasy, which never really happened?
But now Atlantis has become both a refugee camp and a failed civilisation. It no longer wishes to defend itself, but meekly invites the defeated and unemployed, and the refugees from the places we gave up trying to help, to come and move in with them. “There’s plenty of space! We can always build more houses in our cities here in the West, little box flats and overpriced rental accommodation! There will always be plenty of jobs licking boots. Come and join us!” Atlantis is like a massive growing sponge. Soak up the misery of the world. Absorb the populations of every failed state and every failed economy!
Come join us as the whole of Atlantis falls beneath the waves, before inevitable global warming hits again, and the whole sorry civilisation slides beneath the waves!
