At the Airport in the rain

My friend Teddy the taxi driver
Was a born survivor
He conquered the drugs, he smoked Camel light
He loved his shifts throughout the night
The longer the trip the more he thinks
He says time’s eyes make too many blinks
Teddy was a smart man, self-educated
Some folk thought his views were outdated
I guess not getting angry is a terrible sin
That’s the world we are living in
Though I wish it was a lie
Said Teddy with a heavy sigh
His cynicism of religions
‘it’s ghosts feeding pigeons’
Was a continuing battle
The world is full of cattle
Ironically, Teddy’s punters were his congregation
He revelled in their conversations
My cab is a brain lab on wheels
Where all that’s said is never revealed
Said Teddy with a beaming grin
Who took everything on the chin
Including his heart attack that laid him low
His untimely death was a blow.
He was found in his cab free of pain
At the airport in the rain
Waiting for a Bishop from Bath
This I’m sure would’ve made Teddy laugh.
