Opposites

At first, everything
was hunky-dory,
the opening chapter
of a true love story.

In a terraced house
across the street,
lived the young girl
he wished to meet.

He thought he might
be tempting fate
when he decided
to ask her for a date.

They'd opposite views
but seemed to gel
and things looked
to go rather well.

Yet it could be seen
right from the start
that the two lovers
were streets apart.

She, very often.
was quite contrary
and her opinions
would not vary.

Because he was
rather intransigent,
their relationship 
was not permanent.

We think compatibility
is an obvious fact
but it is not true
that opposites attract.
