“ Our river” - a kid’s tale
A feeling of a kid when I was around ten
as my gratitude to our river, now I pen.
Each feeling with the passing of time
in my heart ever often sweetly rhyme
as my gratitude and love for her
she loved and cuddled us like a mother.
Taught we 3were on the human race
how human society developed with grace.
A river along with her run
rooted in many a civilization.
Migrants from the hilly region
to ease their life, as a mission
settled on her bank all along
availing her treasures lifelong
air water, fresh, forest, dense
with flora and fauna, immense
animals to hunt, fish to the net
for food they had not to sweat
“ No battle for food” ensured their safety
Balanced ecology kept them hale and hearty.
Born, brought up, lived on her lap,
buried also, once when all his ties snap.
Love thus they, her like their mother
she is “: Ours, they claim forever.
Till up to my ignorance stage
beyond horizons, I could not gage
my earth was limited within those two
the river bridges them was my view
Sure I was those two limits of the river
hence “ our river” I then vouched for.
Here is a novice attempt to dwell
what is felt by a child in a nutshell
his attempt to count her sands
or to hold her water by my hands.
She is infinite in her contribution
beauties in her, as seen and hidden
With learnings and wisdom
knew I her geography awesome
originating from saintly mountain
merging with the mighty infinite ocean
carrying many tributaries with her
branching to bless areas much wider.
on her way, bridging two horizons
everywhere, to a man all along its run.
but as a child in the composition
I take liberty with this description.
Reminded me I to remember
once on the bank of our river
as an infant with my mom
jumped I from her tight arm
to splash at the river water
to enact my tub bath by mother.
brought fear to my benefactors
who frightened me of alligators
Fear, they crafted in me
to ensure my life safety
as our house being close by
apprehensions is true to sigh
But with age and experience
the fear I started to dispense.
as with friends, I could discover
my apprehensions, injected, is a misnomer
Enjoyed I then the time with her
with wisdom, I could discover
treasures precious and plenty
.over time scintillating scenic beauty
Since my school primary
till my schooling secondary
on our river, we were asked to compose
as observed and “ as one knows?
I have been seeing its fury
and with calm composure, her glory.
her flood, and villagers worry
but a unit in diversity is the end story
An evening on its bank captivates all
setting sun rising to moon us, enthrall
if would have been questioned setter
infinite will be subjected on our river
suiting to a nursery to class postgraduates
the thought-provoking theme she creates
her beauty over seasoning and a day
her ornaments on a dazzling display
reflecting the sun, and the moon in the sky
blue, yellow water, and sand raising it high.
the sound coarse and sweet on its shore
sweetening her melody touching the heart's core.
The service in her calmness as well in fury
salute we singing in praise of her glory

Always enjoy reading your
Always enjoy reading your childhood memories. Your saying about the river bridging two horizons, and about how people moved to live by the river for an easier life, with the abundant food and lush forests, struck me particularly, Also, I am so glad not to have had to worry about alligators when my son was little, your Mum must have been in a panic, you jumping in!
