When evening slides
downward and shadows
creep into view
you can hear the
lilting tunes from loons
hoarding a night sky.
There is no comfort in sounds
of prey and hunger
seeking game - rabbits no
longer playing games.
Fireflies light up bushes
as their message in Morse code
calls out to others wishing
to share shaky spaces-
the snarl of a coyote warns
smaller animals to
review their hiding plans.
All have a role to display in a
forest looming larger with
each disappearing dot of sunset.
