More Offa’s Dyke views and Nosey young cattle @ Knighton

29/5/24 South from Knighton Offa’s Dyke path (not Kington this time, further north)
Steep uphill through shady green woods,
mossy tree bases.
Out to straight path along the ridge
with lovely folding valleys and hills over to the right.
Soon passed through a gap in the dyke
at one of the places where its bank is still very clear.
Stopped for lunch on a concrete bunker in a field
but the young cattle there (4) drew around coming closer and closer
to see (hoping we would feed them like the farmer when he came?
just nosey, or fancying a change of diet?)
My husband got down and ordered them away a few times
and each time they scattered – a few yards
and very soon crept back like mischievous kids.
We gulped some of our lunch and retreated
and not finding anywhere else really to sit comfortably
ate the rest ‘‘on the hoof’.
Returned after awhile by a lower lane,
and path through field
and the same woods as at the beginning,
overlooking Knighton and the high hills behind it.*

These are amazing walks you are taking us on! Thankyou! And your photos are brilliant, too. I have heard of Offa's Dyke, so was very interesting to read your vivid description. Cows can be a bit scary, can't they? Glad you got away safely
