DUERR'S.

Food that we eat when we are young, sometimes stays with us for the rest of our lives.
I wanted my kids to love Marmite, when I had them. Even before I was married and decades before I got married, that I would give them it as soon as they are allowed to eat solids. I can’t think of anything More disgusting than Marmite!! So, at the tender ages of four months old, on their very soft white bread and butter, I added a small amount of Marmite. Yes, their cute little faces showed me their disgust, but needs must! I wanted them to grow up in the Marmite club. Eventually they did love it. For me, it was a job, well done. No one in our home loved peanut butter, smooth or crunchy. My son Daniel ate it as an adult, as a part of his gym training.
Another thing that I ate as a child and loved from then until now, is thick honey on doorstep sliced fresh bread and butter. It is heaven on a slice of bread. Butter tasted better then; I am still to find butter that tasted as tasty like when I was young. Some things, just tasted better back then.
Yesterday, I went into a store I don’t usually go in and saw something that caught my eyes, and I had to buy it. Just looking at it, brought back happy memories, of my childhood, and growing up.
I could almost taste it, I thought briefly of the ways that I could eat it. The price was good, it wasn’t cheap nor expensive, it was just right.
I added it to my basket.
It is still unopened today. There are three ways I will eat it, I love it added to porridge, semolina or ready brek. I will use a tablespoon, heaped of course, this will be instead of sugar.
Another way I will eat it is on hot buttered toast, thick.
My uttermost favourite way of eating it, is with thick hot buttered toast, with tomato ketchup and fat hot sausages and Marmalade.
It is my day off tomorrow, that is what I shall have for breakfast.
Duerr’s Seville orange marmalade,1881 breakfast.
Have just looked on the jar and saw it is suitable for vegetarians and vegan friendly. It is also gluten free, suitable for coeliacs. If I had seen that info, I might not have bought it, because I think, they take all the ‘goodness’ out, so that others can benefit too and get more sales.
I will see tomorrow, with such a top-quality company brand, I expect to thoroughly enjoy my breakfast, and making it a good start to my day. x
