I remember when I was 60, a friend told me, "Ring up and ask for your free bus pass," I rang up and was told, "It used to be 60, now it has gone up to 66." She went on, "That is the age of retirement." I heard a few months ago, the age of retirement has gone up again, it is now 67! I think when I get to 67 it will be 88! My friend who I worked with, she retired in her 80's, she asked me to check on my phone it what she heard is true that, "The government is going to scrap the free bus past," I had a look on my phone, a short time later I texted her back and told her, "Until the 18th of September, there was a possibility that it was going to be scrapped, but now it looks like it won't." I then added, "We will have to wait and see."
I was thinking of Dame Maggie Smith, she didn't retire at 60 or 66 or 67. I am SO glad she didn't, the world has been richer for her carrying on. If she had retired, her gift and tallent would not have been seen in the Harry Potters film. In my opinion, it was her presence, that made Downton Abbey! She was perfect on there, full of wisdom, wit and charm. I loved all the clothes they wore in that era, Maggie looked stunning, in everything she wore, with her elegant hats and cane.
Some of her put downs on Downton Abbey, Dowager Countess, "You are quite wonderful the way you see improvement wherever you look - I never knew such reforming zeal." Mrs Crawley, "I take that as a compliment." Dowager Countess, "I must have said it wrong." To Lord Grantham, "Do you think I might have a drink? Oh I am so sorry, I thougut you were a waiter."
I hope now, they will bring Downton Abbey back on the telly.
Rest In Peace, Dame Maggie Smith.
