Hey Freckle

Hey Freckle!
How’s your day been?
Did you wake up feeling special?
Did the corners of the bedclothes turn themselves
to let you out?
Was it petals or red carpet as you stepped down from the bed?
As you reached to get your toothbrush,
Did it rush to meet your hand?
Was it gentle as it circled?
It’s been warned.
Did the teabag know just when to stop
And give the milk it’s place?
And the spoon that fed you muesli,
Was it careful near your face?
Hey Freckle!
How’s your day been?
Lots of cheering in the streets?
Lots of weeping people
throwing flowers
falling at your feet?
Did the sun stroke from behind
Between your collar and your hairline?
Did the rain avoid your eyes,
And did the pavement meet your feet?
Were they hanging on your every word,
Willing you to say some more?
Another joke! Another story!
They usually do.
Hey Freckle!
How’s your day been?
Will you leave it feeling special?
A freckle’s very special,
And you’ve hundreds.
(I’ve counted while you sleep.)
