By the radiator

I stole some midget gems.
I felt sick when I ate them.
Because they were yours,
And you had cancer.
You said I've got six weeks to live.
I said Dad you won't see us grow up.
I said it for effect,
I said it to make you cry.
You watched Countdown
And did crosswords
After you returned from chemo,
Your face cut with tears,
Back hunched by the radiator.
I wanted to watch Neighbours.
I sat in my room smoking
Wondering how to tell you
I loved you.
They took you away at night.
I think I was sleeping.
I don't like midget gems.
