RUGS: Carpet Colony

The thought had
crossed my mind
but I swept it under the rug
with the rest of the
left behinds.
They congregate there
leftovers of dreams
that never see the light-
remnants of aspirations
that didn't turn out right.
They hold town meetings
about rising up from below the carpet
wanting to be heard.
That's usually when the broom
shows up and the population grows-
more has-been wannabees
to share that squished down space.
It's getting to the point where
someone's really gonna have to start
doing the things that they say they're gonna do&;#8230;
There's just no more room under this rug.
