The Last Page, Unwritten

I no longer visualize an ending. Ever since that time when
They came running, laughing musically
Shooting the luminous champion with one small shining spar, and then
Turning themselves away. The brightest one fell.
The thread of this story I forget myself. Only I could see.
No recording angel rang clear to all, in order to share
For catharsis, the horror and the pity.
And I left grieving alone.
But I digress. What is left for telling?
He fell. They ran laughing to leave via the deep one,
over the rainbow and, to the outside of my understanding,
This folded distance from within. They never were.
And so the last song will be a crash of days,
The star betrayed, the page forever unwritten.
We are thus full of emptiness, that I in a thousand ways
Established above, will not remember further.
