On Monday both of the servants were around for the day and there was absolutely nothing in their behaviour to suggest that they were going away. Then late in the evening the blue holdall and black shoulder bag came in to suggest they were going away again.
I must admit that having watched them for the past three or four months that the two servants are getting rather good at packing. They seem to have got it down to about twenty minutes for, as this trip turned out to be, for four days or three nights; whichever way you want to view it.
I just wish they would try to keep me a bit better informed about their movements. Even a Postit note above my feed bowl would suffice.
At least the servants left the heating on as it got jolly cold here in Hampshire. There were even a few flurries of snow that went past my bedroom window. And BIG event that did make the earth move. There was an earthquake of magnitude 2.9 centred on Winchester on Tuesday at about 1830. (I do prefer the 24 hour clock as it avoids any ambiguity over whether or not a time is AM or PM which is particularly valuable when giving servants instructions.) We felines are very sensitive to the forces of nature and I must admit that although I am not a member of the worried well demographic or subject to mass induced emotional spasms, I did feel a slight tremor. Any fears and concerns I did have were overshadowed by the fact that I was being fed at the time.
One ‘smart’ comment I did overhear was that the tremor may have been caused by fracking in the area. I don’t think so.
My man servant has mentioned fracking a few times. His latest thoughts on the subject are about how the outlook for these alternative sources of energy must be distorted by the continuing fall in the price of crude oil. While crude oil is so cheap and plentiful the economics of fracking and for that matter, wind farms must be taking a bit of a kicking in the ‘Jacobs’ which is some sort of rhyming slang. Goodness knows what for.
The man servant is no longer depressed over his performance in the racing league he is involved in. He has accepted his position at the absolute bottom of the mini league with resolute stoicism. This position was further consolidated this afternoon at Sandown in the 1535 when his selections yielded him ‘nil pointe’. He scored fewer points than a British earthquake did earlier this week.
There was good news this evening. No, the servants have not won the lottery and become secret millionaires. The lady servant is away for a couple of days and the man servant is going to be home based all week. At last I have him to myself for five straight days of Omar style training. Fortunately he is a quick learner.
