Fresher Digs

Autumn air.
Light freckling the sides of rental vans.
Inside,
tac-pocked walls
have been daubed with paint.
There’s a teabag in the sink
and evidence of mice.
Along the hall, the electric meter
sifts out its kilowatts
like an unwatched magician.
But then the buzzer goes…
its a gawky kid handing out Smirnoff Sours.
They are like little green grenades.a

I'm going to show this to my daughter, who becomes a Fresher this weekend. The Smirnoff Sours will whet her appetite. And possibly the topless lad, depending on variables.
