FANCY

"My mate likes you.
I think he's got a crush."
"My mate fancies you.
My mate thinks you're lush."
"My mate, my mate."
Blah, blah, blah.
"Do you want to thingamajig,
With my mate's do dah?"
I never thought I much liked the word 'fancy'.
What precisely does it mean?
It meant nothing deeply meaningful.
It means, "I want to make you scream.
That is, I don't want to scare you.
I just, sort of, want to wear you."
"Oh. You do?"
"Yeah, I do."
But you 'fancied' a whole bunch of other girls, too.
You could 'fancy' loads of people,
But you cannot care for them all.
You might find many people attractive,
But you can't care for them whole.
Meaning, you can't care for them wholly,
Absolutely, with all you've got.
I don't want a piece; just a little bit,
While you're spreading it about and sharing it.
Gone are the days when 'He fancies you',
Wasn't such an unusual phrase.
You don't know what you miss 'til it's gone.
It was charming, in its own ridiculous way.
