A Teenager's Fad

Sweet smelling rain turns to white flakes of cold
Falling so slowly, someone young might turn old.
The dirt turns to ice, frozen mud on the ground,
You can’t hear a thing, for snow absorbs sound.
Deadly quiet, not a person in sight,
Bright as the day are the white blanket nights.
So cold I fear my breath, my very words
Will turn to hard ice and plummet downwards
To land on the pavement with loud, piercing sounds
And shatter to pieces on hard frozen ground.
And they’ll just walk by, while my words lay there, dead
I should have just left them to swim in my head.
Winter, it’s just such a traitorous thing
Oh, all the coldness and glumness it brings.
But, for some reason, when green turns to white,
I can’t help but feel so strangely bright.
For I know that tomorrow a new day will come,
It will be just as wet as yesterday was.
But when enough tomorrows finally pass,
The snow, it will melt, finally, at last!
Then hints of green will begin to arrive
And I’ll begin to feel very alive,
Just like the flowers, all starting to bloom
And the warm rain that falls to melt away gloom.
Winter is here, but I’m not very sad,
It will be gone, like a teenager’s fad.
