"Oh, look, Daddy!" I heard someone yell.
I have been here for hours now, trod into the mud. Ever since the baby dropped me from her pram.
I felt so sad. I think the baby did too, because she cried and screamed at her mother to come back for me. But her mother was in a tearing hury, so she couldn't understand what her daughter was crying about.
"What is it, sweetheart?" I heard the daddy talking now.
"It's a little bunny. Not a real one, the kind you take to bed with you."
I was picked up by a small girl of around five or six. She had blonde hair pulled into a pair of cute pigtails. She had the sweetest face and was smiling down at me.
"He's a bit muddy, Lavender," her daddy said. Cheek! I'm not a he I'm a she!
"Oh, but can't I take him home, please, Daddy. He could be a replacement for Flopsy. I could wash him in the bath."
Her daddy sighed. "Oh, go on then," he said, giving in.
Lavender squealed, escitedly. She hugged me close, and followed her daddy, as he took off down the path.
She hugged me and said. "Oh, you and I are going to have lots of fun! I'm going to call you Thumper, and I'll give you a bath, make you nice and not so smelly..."
"Psst, Lavender," I whispered.
She looked around, a clear sign she'd heard me.
"Down here, Leavender."
She looked at me. "Is that you talking, Thumper?"
"Yes. Please don't call me Thumper, it's a boy's name."
"Are you a girl then?"
"Yes."
"What shall I call you then?"
"You can call me Dinah."
"Okay, Dinah. Hello, Dinah."
"Hello, Lavender."
"Can you talk all the time?"
"Yes, but don't tell youir daddy, he won't be able to hear you, he's a grown-up."
"Okay, Dinah. You and I are going to have lots of fun together."
And Lavender hugged me really tight, and hurried to race her Daddy home. I was starting to miss the baby, but I soon found I could have loads more fun with a little six year old girl who could hear me talk...
