Letters to the lost commanders of the sky

He stands there for a minute
staring at his feet
not knowing quite what to say,
he never wanted her to go away,
and when he looks up
there's a tear in her eye,
he never wanted to make her cry,
it's just something he has to do.
"I'll come back for you, I promise."
And with that he was gone
to fly above and beyond the clouds
to rule the skys,
and three years on
he comes home, in a box, with a flag draped on.

She stands there for a minute
staring straight at her feet
where his grave stone is,
and she reads out a letter she wrote him.
"You promised me, you promised you'd come back
you said that we'd live happy ever after,
well I'm not happy... I miss you, I miss you so much, I need you. My life is hell, sure I got a promtion and got close with my mum again but none of that matters, I lost the one thing I need in my life, You. And you promised..."
She takes a depth breath in and composes herself
"... well I guess I forgive you, but wait for me in heaven okay, I'll be there soon, I love you, my life, my soul, my everything, I love you."
