What makes a poem and poem?
How it looks on the page?
It's extravagant, flourishing language
Which like wine gets better with age.
Is it the form or length of stanza;
The rhythm or rhyme scheme?
Is it the diction and vocabulary?
Should it be heard but not seen?
What makes a poem a poem?
Is it what the author wants to say;
Or the form bound by tradition;
Or a feeling he wants to convey?
What makes this a poem?
The similes and metaphors;
Or the thought gone for preparation?
You decide: the floor is yours.
