I saw love
as taking.
I said this is my love
and you must share your fruits
with me.
You must not question.
You must not disagree.
Love is not
liking.
This is the kind of love I know,
the love I have received
the love that glowers in the night
that I give to you.
I said you are my love,
I give as you give.
Love is giving and taking.
And I saw the silken whorl draw up and in
and lock tight, a mossy
grey around the
bright stem, and heart withdrawn
to a world where I could not go.
I knew you to your nemesis, all words,
all abstract and
abstracted.
And who shall give?
And who shall take?
And who is giving, and who is equal
In their taking?
Blocked, I relented
and then I sensed love,
fasting at the feast
silence in a symphony
a wealth of nothing
an effort of ease.
