Splurge [IP]

Give me the money. I think this, over and over, to the cash machine as those behind me pace silently, restlessly. The money spewing machine opposite is broken and the empty echo of footfalls make me more and more impatient. My PIN flashes through from my brain to my fingertips and I hope that there won't be an incident like last time.
Last time is a world ago- thousand and eight and I keyed in the same digits onto a plastic pad. Except then the centre was busier.
It was then the kind of winter everyone had felt coming for weeks and were constantly commenting on. Things are getting bleak aren't they? I had overheard an old couple on the bus saying. They knew what was coming.
Back in the centre, back then, I had seen the blaring of lights. There had been a small rolling scale of beeps that told me. "PIN not valid. Account has insufficient funds. Try again later." I took a step back, hit the red cancel button with impatience and traversed home with fear in my heart.
Today was different. The newspaper headlines were telling me so. The recession was at an end and what better way to celebrate than a splurge? A mindless outpouring of cash. A senseless spending spree. I had the money now.
I'd start with the clothes.
