Spending time in a library is not imprisonment
Once they invented books they knew what vision meant
From reading you can see so much in your mind
And if you are going blind
You can listen to the books on tape
Even prison libraries are an escape

If you have read all the books you like
And cannot think of another in our stock
That will shock
and surprise you
then let me advise you
for there are many that lay undiscovered
waiting to be uncovered

Don't worry if you feel like a plonker
You don't have to be old to enjoy Joan Jonker
Or read from Miss Read
It helps though.
But take your chances
while reading Dick Francis

You don't have to be Sharpe
To like Bernard Cornwell
Or be especially clever
to finish a book by Stephen Hawking
Though I didn't
and I'm much better then him at talking

Make sure you have all day
when you sit down with Hemingway
for he does go on a bit
And wherever you may sit
just please make sure
you don't get too sore

If you have managed to read every one
as some have claimed
then I cannot be blamed
when I close my eyes
and sigh
for you have achieved an impossible task
and that can only make me gasp

Working in a library is not a death sentence
Even when you don't get time to read a single sentence.
You don't need glasses on a long chain
there is no need to frown and complain.
You don't have to have a permanent sneer
To work here

You watch the punters come and go
Some you get to know
Some you may see grow
You might even find your one true love
Or the person everyone is after
the one who borrowed a Jeffrey Archer

I listen to the many comments that have arisen
but please don't give us criticism
when you find a book a monkey could have written
for we did not write it
however you may slight it
and please don't bite it

If you want to take books home
you do not have to pay
Just remember to return them three weeks from today
For its not like adoption
although books need looking after and don't like being lost
remember we are the rightful owner and will be very cross

But If you cannot run the risk
of an overdue book
and being called a crook
you can stay in here and read all day
just don't make too much noise ok?
