The Fairy Of The Willow

There is a fairy of the Willow
With gilded gossamer wings,
Reclining by her lakeside
Weeping as she sings.
Her dress is like the softest silk
A kind of iridescent green,
As she flies from here to there
It shimmers with a luminescent sheen.
She weeps and sings a sad song
That tells of a love unrequited,
The object of her desire
Is a mortal man.
Uninvited
He stole into her heart
While he sat by her lake.
He did not sense her presence
As she watched him with an ache.
She yearned for him to notice her
Sweet thing, she did not realise
That fairies were invisible
To mere mortal eyes.
Seductively she danced
And flew into the air,
Wings sparkling in the sunlight
Yet, he was totally unaware.
Emboldened, she touched him,
Her hands caressed his face;
She wept upon his shoulder
When he ignored her soft embrace.
Then all at once a smile
Appeared upon his lips,
Folding his arms around her
She felt his finger tips.
She sighed, in ecstasy
All her dreams came true;
She hadn’t realised
It was what humans do
When the sun was shining
And they were feeling fine,
To fold their arms across their chest
And smile a smile sublime.
Suddenly he let her go
And jumping to his feet,
He waved a hand in the air
Running around the lake to greet,
A lovely girl with golden hair
A mortal one and so,
He took her gently in his arms
As if he would never let her go.
The fairy of the Willow
Cried out her desolation,
Dewdrop tears upon her cheeks
Betrayed her isolation.
Upon the grassy bank she lay,
Using her arms as a pillow,
Weeping her unhappiness
She is known as Weeping Willow.
