Farewell

Farewell to days filled with leaves:
I cannot open my box to let out the light
within the gale of swirling orange and brown.
Maggots will eat the apple
I threw to the side of the pavement
or in the road, the gutter
will shield fragile skin from unnatural bruising.
Never has there been a storm so deep.
Waving from a doorframe-
now I see myself reflected,
I almost did, then.
