Hope Re-born

Our brief with this challenge was to take a Hymn, re-write it with the same rhyme and rhythm, on any subject, I chose that wonderful Hymn ‘The Day Thou Gavest Lord Has Ended’ Yet, I was reluctant to re-write it in a soulless manner. I chose therefore to write it as a pagan kind of Hymn, one that celebrates the rebirth of life on Earth, with hope for Mankind
The sun is shining, Spring approaches
The darkness now will soon recede
And in the dawn light that encroaches
Earth awakes in desperate need.
In want of comfort, love and kindness
All who inhabit here below
Must surely forgo hate and blindness
To love each other friend or foe
Then as the Spring turns into Summer
Let those new ties bind stronger still
O joyous season hail newcomer
To brotherhood and Earth’s new will
As Autumn’s reign reflects all glory
Of Summertime in reddish hue
O fill your hearts, keep fresh the story
Of mankind’s kinship close to you
And cherish warmth in friendly fashion
When Winter comes her bite can sting
Like bullets aimed in rage and passion.
So, hold Spring in your hearts and sing
