Immortality

Immortal and immortal
Ever entwined in the dust of death
Lights sweep those icy bodies
And leave them to weep
The world, spinning on her axis, does not falter
Does not fail in her everlasting journey
We do not cry at night for the murders of the innocent
Ultraviolet light can slowly suffocate us
We are in a vacuum of sorrow
Never winning
Never slowing
A race to die and slump on the ground at the finishing lines
Never winning is what losing is all about
Draw the musty curtain over your head
And hide from the things that nuzzle you in the dark
Another day
Another dying day to get through
Shy sunlight streaming
You scurry from all the praise
And snuggle with the vampires
And the monsters of the dark
The lonely night wanderers
Does that make you one of them?
Does it?
