Kettle Cure-All
Another dream world meets a broken end.
A bruised and bloodied knee halts the fun.
"Never mind my little one
I'll put the kettle on."
Around the screen the soar-throated faithful groan.
The Final battle lost, the cup has gone.
"Never mind" says mum,
"I'll put the kettle on."
Crest-fallen, she sat in abandoned teenage love.
My sister's heart was lonely aching.
In a reassuring whisper came the words,
"I'll put the kettle on."
A lifetime's toil is halted and dad's last day is done.
The factory hooter fades and wails no more.
"Never mind darling,
I'll put the kettle on."
When she uttered that chilling word 'terminal'.
We sat both shocked and stunned.
"I think", said mum
"I'd better put the kettle on."
The Reaper called at our house just the other day
And Grandad's three score ten was done.
Amidst the lamented weeping
Mum put the kettle on.
Death's dark day beckons, Armageddon comes
They've pulled the trigger, fired the bomb.
"Never mind" says mum
"I'll put the kettle???????..
