No More Heroes

Superheroes fade away;
we wear warm clothes on wintry days;
our evil foes are gone, or dead
or turned respectable instead,
no need for us to stay.

Superheroes fade away;
the world's in thrall to U.S.A
whose enemies expose its greed
and now embrace Islamic creed
which superpowers can't gainsay;
the bad guys are the ones who pray,
we don't know where we stand today.

Superheroes fade to grey;
our capes and boots are stashed away
with old school snaps and wedding dress;
our grandchildren would never guess
that we were mighty in our day.
But now we're clods with feet of clay;
we wear warm clothes and fade away.
