Rubbing Salt

I know where I stand
At least I thought I did
But when you tell me things
That knock it flat
That mean that
You dont like that
Which I might say or do
I am a friend, that I know
It means a lot so
I worry if I have upset you
I have offended you
Or we misunderstand each other
You mean a lot to me
I know that you are not free
But neither am I
I sometimes cry
I sometimes laugh
I wish to share with you
Things I have found
Or make you laugh
As I sometimes do
But sometimes we say
Things to each other
That are like rubbing salt
In an open wound
I try to accept that
Things are what they are
That I care deeply for you
That your happiness
Is more important than mine
And if I send a gift
It is because I want to
Not that I expect you
To give one in return
And if I give you my love
I dont expect you to love me
But sometimes
It is pleasant to walk and talk
With you
To hear your voice
To see you smile
To hear what you did
And what you think, girl.
