She's Leaving Home

Wednesday morning at two o’clock as the clock tower chimes
Laid in her bed she clutches Brown Ted - surrounded by nursery rhymes
Remembers her childhood when she used to feel good – back in the day.
She swallows the pills that will cure all her ills and take her away.
Wednesday morning at three o’clock she picks up the phone.
Like so many others she quickly discovers, the terrors of dying alone.
With fast numbing fingers, her memory still lingers on day of old.
The light starts to fade and her memories jade with the growing cold.
Wednesday morning at five o’clock as the police car arrives.
Tired men in blue, not quite sure what to do; used to saving lives.
Neighbours are woken as her door is broken and the police go inside.
Showing they care as they help her prepare for the ambulance ride.
She’s leaving home after living alone for so many years.
She’s leaving home, bye, bye.
With thanks and acknowledgement to the Beatles
