Sylvia Plath cost me two quid
And now I'm feeling poor;
"The Bell Jar" slid under the bed
Whilst I went off to Goa.

Poor Sylvia had so impressed
I hadn't known I'd lost her
Until the library send a card:
"This book is gonna cost yer!"

Fines on fines; three weeks or more,
This time I've really caught it!
My only consolation is
At least I never bought it!

(Note: "Poor" and "Goa" make a perfect rhyme when read in a Yorkshire
accent!)
