Time and the looking glass

Looking through the looking glass
I see a face so old and grey
is it me I see?
Looking glass you tell no lies
the truth is in my own eyes
is it me I see?
I hear children's voices from so far away
they echo across meadows on a summers day
a swallow swoops down to steal a kiss
then twists away in the summers mist
kicking up leaves in the golden fall
I kissed your cheek
by the old school wall
but now it grips me inside
my malignant bride.
It pulls me down to my resting place
on a bed of claws they embrace
I know I will never leave this bed
until they pull the sheets up over my head
and then, yes, it's me I see.
