U Wanna Twinkle

Glancing at a photo of Posh Spice on the cover of a popular TV
magazine I found myself feeling unaccountably sorry for her.
It was only a small picture and had that ubiquitous smile that famous people wear whenever there is a camera around.
Beneath that smile something seemed to be crying out, searching for release, searching for some way to escape the pressures and prejudices of fame.
Now I'm not saying that's how she truly felt at the time - only she can know that - but it set me thinking what's left for such people to
dream.
There is a vast gulf, between having fun and being happy, between being rich and famous and being content. Although it might be great to be in the spotlight for a week, or even two, it would soon become unbearable for the average person. Constant scrutiny by fans and press, always having to live up to the image that has been created, both, for you and by you.
I've been told that all famous people dream of is how to become more famous - if that's true then it's an illness and like all illnesses
must eventually take its toll. Nobody thinks of all the exercise and
dieting that goes with the expensive dinners and champagne suppers or the paranoia that accompanies every new secret.
So all you wannabe's start practising gritting your teeth as though you were smiling, looking over your shoulder demurely, and imagining that cameras are flashing and fixing your every move for posterity.
Most of all enjoy the freedom you have - for if your dream comes true you will inevitably become a prisoner of your own fame.
