From the corner of my eye
From the sides of my mind
Pretending not to notice
This thing from another time.
It stands there, on my stair
Its shimmering hollowness
Shows the picture behind
Cold sweat beads, sting my eye
A quenching feed for the fly.
I prey for the visitor to fade and go
So locked in fear,
My pounding heart;
Beats in my ear.
As that picture smiles at me
And that hollow shimmer
Pebbles it's self away
Like rings of water
Sparkles the light of the new day.
I never did see it again
That thing on my stair
I made sure of that
I turned around my chair.
