When I left you sleeping
did you think I didn't care
I kissed your baby face
and touched your baby hair.
No tears tonight you sleep so sound
but this hush is so loud
it's screaming down the stair
save me save me do you care.
The stair case buckles and twists
under my feet, as I try to get to the top
the hand rail writhes like a deadly snake
trying to foil the plot.
Little box so light
little face inside
the sorrowing of the rain
snows the blossoms from the trees
the shiver of winter
will always be on me.
To face that room at the top of the stair
and that hollow cot. the haunting sound of
a music box, as it plays its saddest song,
oh my baby, you are gone.
