I aim to please

I wish everyone liked me
It hurts me when they don’t
Most people, laugh at my jokes
But there’s always some that won't

I aim to please all, in my life
Even though it’s often tough
To put others before myself
You’d think that was enough!

If you want me other than I appear
You don’t even have to ask
Give me a glimpse of the script
And I’ll put on the mask

Indicate which response you want
What line that I should tow
I’ll set aside my own truth
And say Yes! When I think No!

All this protects me from myself
The one I want to hide
Mine own self is not good enough
So I’ll just go with the tide

O that the day will come
I’ll face the fear. Be free.
Believe my Maker, makes no mistakes
And be happy to be Me!

Me an' all, Barry - though I do think that in the fourth stanza 'throw' might possibly work a little better than 'tow' (?), but that's just me and it's still really good anyway - loved the rhyme, too, well done :)

Give me a glimpse of the script And I’ll put on the mask Interesting line, I suspect lots do that. But, to thine on self be true. Great poem, liked it. Imagine it reflects the sentiments of many. You don't sound like a bounder to me :-)
