The Man That Stands by the Gate

The watchman
He stands by the gate
He watches for when we all breathe our last breath
A little too late
He is not the reaper of death
He is just the man that keeps count
For someone has to tally the dead as they come in
And ensure that no one comes out
He stands by the gate of
the land after life
Guarding and watching with his trusty telescope
called One-eye and his sword named Knife
Although it is not easy the life he has led watching and guarding the dead
Most people do not know or realise
That even though no one is ever truly safe
This is especially true for when someone dies
For you see these are the gates of a fortress as well as a prison
Protecting from the demons made of their occupant's own thoughts and lies
You need to understand
Every evil thought, horrid deed and shed of tear
Finds themselves in solid form here
For the watchman
An uneasy life it has certainly been
Since most people both living and dead don't know
He has to keep things out
As well as keep his reluctant occupant's in
But another thing people do not realise is that the watchman is not necessarily a man
He can be watching though a women
Witnessing a bloody murder
He can be the purring pet on grandma’s lap
Noticing that its owner's
hand has stopped petting
now grandma has taken her last breath
Whatever and wherever he is, he is always there
By the side of death
